Lyft's Mississippi insurance certificate names State Farm Fire and Casualty Company and lists the liability limits. Your treatment records tell you which passenger settlement range fits your injuries. The certificate does not answer every insurance question, including how much uninsured motorist coverage applies to your crash.
How much is a Lyft accident settlement in Mississippi?
For a Mississippi Lyft passenger, weeks of treatment for a soft tissue injury pay $7,000 to $35,000. Surgery pays $185,000 to $400,000 with a good recovery and $400,000 to $650,000 with permanent restrictions. Traumatic brain injury claims pay $200,000 to $1,000,000 or more, and wrongful death claims pay $350,000 to $1,000,000 or more.
State Farm Fire and Casualty Company is Lyft's Mississippi insurer on the October 1, 2026 certificate. The document shows $1,000,000 in liability coverage per accident and separate $50,000-per-person bodily injury coverage. Mississippi requires the $1,000,000 minimum after the driver accepts a ride. For a driver logged on and waiting, the legal minimum is $50,000 per person.
For injury or death, the uninsured motorist minimum in Mississippi is $25,000 for each person, with $50,000 for the accident. The named insured can reject the coverage in writing. Lyft's certificate gives no uninsured motorist limit; the law does not require that coverage to equal $1,000,000.

How does treatment affect a Mississippi Lyft accident settlement?
Mississippi Lyft claims for soft tissue injuries treated over weeks pay $7,000 to $35,000; surgical claims range from $185,000 to $650,000 depending on recovery. The table separates a good recovery from permanent restrictions and gives fractures and disc injuries their own rows.
| Treatment and outcome | Passenger settlement |
|---|---|
| Weeks of care for soft tissue injury, whiplash or sprain; no imaging finding | $7,000 - $35,000 |
| Months of therapy for a sprain or strain | $15,000 - $60,000 |
| A broken bone heals without an operation | $35,000 - $140,000 |
| Imaging shows a herniated disc; injections, no surgery | $45,000 - $185,000 |
| Surgery followed by a good recovery | $185,000 - $400,000 |
| Surgery followed by permanent restrictions | $400,000 - $650,000 |
| Treatment for traumatic brain injury | $200,000 - $1,000,000+ |
| Wrongful death claim | $350,000 - $1,000,000+ |
Ranges are based on reported Mississippi crash-injury results and court records, together with the insurance required by Miss. Code Ann. 77-8-15, current as of September 15, 2026.
Mississippi requires $1,000,000 of liability insurance after a driver accepts a ride, which explains the higher passenger amounts compared with ordinary crashes. The Mississippi car accident calculator gives $5,000 to $25,000 for ordinary soft tissue claims.
For the treatment records behind a disc claim, see the Mississippi back injury calculator. A death claim pays $350,000 to $1,000,000 or more; the fatal Mississippi crash guide explains the family's claims.

Which insurance company covers Lyft in Mississippi?
State Farm Fire and Casualty Company insures Lyft, Inc. on the Mississippi certificate dated October 1, 2026. The certificate lists insurer code 25143. All three listed liability policies have a term of October 1, 2026 to October 1, 2027.
Open Lyft's proof-of-insurance page and choose Mississippi to reach the two-page certificate. The first page, an ACORD 25 liability certificate, says For the State of MS
and Evidence of Insurance Only
.
- The automobile liability entry lists two policies and a $1,000,000 combined single limit per accident. A combined single limit is one limit shared by bodily injury and property damage.
- The separate
NON-OWNED AUTOS ONLY
entry lists $50,000 for bodily injury to one person, $100,000 for bodily injury per accident, and $25,000 for property damage per accident. - The second page lists comprehensive and collision coverage with a $2,500 deductible each. Payment is based on the car's actual cash value (ACV) or repair cost, whichever is lower, less that deductible.
The certificate does not attach its policies to driver activities. Its liability figures match Lyft's published amounts for drivers logged on and waiting and for drivers who have accepted a ride. Neither page lists or excludes uninsured or underinsured motorist coverage.
The certificate is evidence of insurance, and it does not create rights for the person holding it. Ask the insurer to confirm the policy covering the date of your crash.

How much insurance does Lyft carry in Mississippi?
Lyft's Mississippi certificate shows $1,000,000 in liability insurance per accident and separate limits of $50,000 per person, $100,000 per accident and $25,000 for property. The table shows how those figures compare with Lyft's national wording and Mississippi's requirements.
Lyft lists four coverage headings: the app is off; the app is on and the driver is waiting for requests; the app is on and the driver is heading to a pickup or carrying a passenger; and a ride is in progress. The certificate supplies the Mississippi figures; the national page describes coverage across markets.
| Driver activity | Lyft's words | Mississippi law | Certificate figures |
|---|---|---|---|
The app is off. | Lyft says the driver's personal auto insurance applies. | The state minimum liability amounts are $25,000 per person, $50,000 per accident and $25,000 for property. | The certificate is for Lyft's insurance, not the driver's personal policy. |
A Lyft driver is logged on and waiting. | Lyft maintains at least $50,000/$100,000/$25,000 liability insurance for covered accidents if your personal insurance does not apply. | Mississippi requires liability insurance for death or bodily injury of at least $50,000 for one person and $100,000 per incident, with $25,000 for property. | The non-owned-auto entry lists matching $50,000/$100,000/$25,000 limits. |
The driver has accepted a ride and is driving to pickup or carrying the passenger. | Lyft says In most marketsit maintains at least $1,000,000 in third-party auto liability insurance for covered accidents; it notes lower limits or no purchased coverage in certain markets. | At least $1,000,000 is required for death, bodily injury and property damage after the driver accepts the request. | The automobile liability entry lists a $1,000,000 combined single limit per accident. |
In Mississippi, a prearranged ride begins when the driver accepts the request and finishes when the last requesting rider leaves the vehicle, so the $1,000,000 requirement includes the drive to pick you up. For the full rule, see when Mississippi requires each liability amount.
If the injury happened during drop-off, record whether the last requesting rider was still in the car or had left it when you were hurt.
Lyft's footnotes identify exceptions in Arizona, Nebraska, Maryland, New York City and certain New York counties; they also address drivers who must carry their own commercial insurance, including livery and transportation charter permit drivers nationwide. The Mississippi certificate, rather than an omission from the footnotes, is the source for the figures here.

Does Lyft have uninsured motorist coverage in Mississippi?
Lyft's published documents do not give an uninsured motorist limit for Mississippi. The certificate has no line for that coverage, which proves neither that Lyft bought it nor that Lyft rejected it.
Personal injury protection (PIP) and medical payments coverage (MedPay) are among the types named on Lyft's help page. The page says first-party coverages may include
uninsured motorist coverage, underinsured motorist coverage, PIP, MedPay and Occupational Accident coverage. The list gives no Mississippi limit and does not say the Mississippi policy contains every listed type.
For uninsured motorist insurance, Mississippi requires at least $25,000 for one person’s injury or death, $50,000 for the accident, and $25,000 for property damage. A written rejection by the named insured removes that requirement. The insured can select higher amounts up to the corresponding liability limits. A $1,000,000 uninsured motorist limit is not a legal requirement for a Mississippi Lyft ride.
Write to State Farm asking for the uninsured motorist limit on the Lyft policy for your crash date, or a copy of the written rejection. Do not treat a liability limit as the answer to that request.
A passenger is a guest insured under the vehicle's uninsured motorist coverage; the shared Mississippi uninsured motorist explanation also covers personal and household policies and when their limits can be combined.

Do you need a denial from the driver’s own insurer?
Mississippi law does not require a personal insurer's denial before Lyft's insurance responds. When the driver's coverage has lapsed or does not supply the required insurance, the company's insurer must cover the claim from the first dollar and provide a defense.
Lyft's warning about personal insurance is that most personal auto policies will not cover you
for Lyft driving. Mississippi permits a personal insurer to exclude losses during app use, so ask what the policy actually covers.
Keep the two questions separate when writing to an adjuster: whether the personal policy covers this driving, and whether Lyft's insurer is demanding a denial first. Read the Mississippi personal-insurance and denial-letter rules for the statutory details.

What records can you get after a Lyft accident?
You can save your rider receipt, open Lyft's public Mississippi certificate, and request the driver's insurance information and the relevant log-on and log-off times. The insurance disclosure sent to drivers and the coverage descriptions exchanged between insurers go to different recipients.
| Document | Who has it? | What you can receive |
|---|---|---|
Mississippi certificate of insurance | Lyft publishes it on its proof-of-insurance page. | Anyone can open the PDF. |
Your electronic trip receipt | Lyft sends it to the rider after the trip. | The law requires the starting point, destination, total time and distance, and an itemized fare if one was paid. |
The driver's insurance information | The driver must carry proof of insurance during app use. | After a crash, the driver must provide it on request to directly interested people, insurers and investigating officers. |
Log-on and log-off times | Lyft and its insurers exchange relevant records in a coverage investigation. | Directly involved parties can request the precise times for the 12 hours before and 12 hours after the accident. |
The written disclosure for drivers | Lyft gives the driver its coverage types and limits before allowing the driver to accept rides. | The disclosure law gives this document to drivers, not to injured passengers or other drivers. |
Descriptions exchanged between insurers | The company and insurers share the coverage, exclusions and limits with one another. | That exchange does not give you a right to their description. Ask the driver for insurance information under the separate driver-disclosure duty. |
The driver must also answer whether they were logged on or on a prearranged ride when the accident occurred. The log times show app use; proof that the driver had accepted a ride comes from the trip record and that answer.
The disclosure Lyft gives its drivers must also warn that the personal policy might not provide any coverage
, depending on its terms. That is a warning the law requires Lyft to give the driver before accepting rides, not a document the passenger has a statutory right to demand.

How do you report a Lyft collision and prepare the claim?
Start with Lyft's accident-report form to submit an injury or damage claim. Lyft says completing the report takes 10 to 15 minutes, and its insurance page says Claims Customer Care is available 24/7.
Keep the receipt and trip screens
Save the electronic Lyft receipt and take screenshots of the trip history in the first days. The receipt must show where the trip began and ended, its total time and distance, and an itemized fare if one was paid. Keep these with the records of your injuries.
Ask whether the driver had accepted a ride
Ask the driver for insurance information and whether they were logged on and waiting or had accepted a ride when the crash happened. The driver must answer requests for that information after an accident. Ask the officer to put the answer in the crash report.
Send Lyft the accident report
Use Lyft’s accident-report page to begin a claim for injury or damage. Lyft says the form takes 10 to 15 minutes. Keep a copy of what you submit and the replies you receive. Reporting does not extend the legal filing deadline.
Ask State Farm about uninsured motorist insurance
Send State Farm a written request for the uninsured motorist limit on the Lyft policy for your crash date, or a copy of the written rejection. The Mississippi certificate does not answer that question. Read the public certificate alongside the insurer’s reply.
Request the app log times
Ask Lyft and its insurer for the log-on and log-off times during the 12 hours before and the 12 hours after the collision. Those times show app use. Use the trip record and the driver’s answer to prove whether the driver had accepted a ride.
Record the deadline for filing suit
For an ordinary injury claim, count 3 years from the crash date and write down that filing deadline. Keep track of the deadline while the insurers discuss payment. A report to Lyft and an open claim file do not add time.

Can you sue Lyft in Mississippi, or must you arbitrate?
Lyft's February 9, 2026 terms send covered disputes with Lyft to individual arbitration, a process outside court. The terms exclude individual small-claims actions, and Mississippi Justice Court can hear a demand for damages of no more than $3,500.
The small-claims exception applies only within that court's jurisdiction and only while the case is not removed or appealed to a court of general jurisdiction. Lyft's terms also exclude individual sexual-assault or sexual-harassment claims connected with its platform or services.
The terms give drivers and driver applicants 30 days after accepting the agreement to opt out of arbitration for driver claims, on the stated conditions. The terms require a dated, signed email with the account's name, phone number and email address; previous arbitration agreements and pending settlement actions limit the effect. Riders are not given that opt-out.
The agreement addresses disputes with Lyft and the related parties it names; it is not automatically your arbitration agreement with an unrelated other driver or an insurer. The claim for insurance payment is separate from deciding whether the company itself is legally responsible.
Suing Lyft itself requires a legal reason to hold the company responsible beyond the driver's use of the app, because the law does not assume company control unless a written contract says so; see the Mississippi rules for claims against a rideshare company.

How does the $2,500 deductible affect a Lyft driver?
The $2,500 deductible reduces payment for damage to the Lyft driver's own car under comprehensive or collision coverage. The Mississippi certificate lists that deductible separately for each coverage.
Lyft's help page makes coverage conditional: If a driver obtains comprehensive and collision on their personal auto policy
, Lyft maintains contingent comprehensive and collision insurance. The page describes coverage up to the actual cash value of the car
; page two of the Mississippi certificate specifies the lower of actual cash value or repair cost, less $2,500.
A driver who buys only Mississippi's 25/50/25 liability minimum does not have personal comprehensive and collision coverage and therefore receives no contingent comprehensive or collision coverage from Lyft for that car. The deductible is a vehicle-damage condition, not a charge deducted from an injured passenger's liability claim.

What was the Uber and Lyft settlement in the news?
The New York Attorney General announced $328 million in back-pay settlements on November 2, 2023, consisting of $290 million from Uber and $38 million from Lyft. The announcement directs the money into separate funds as back pay for current and former drivers in New York.
The funds are for pay that the companies’ policies withheld from drivers, according to the Attorney General. They are not an injury fund for Mississippi passengers, and a Mississippi crash does not create a claim to that back pay.

When must you file, and how long does a Lyft settlement take?
An ordinary Mississippi Lyft injury claim has a 3-year filing deadline measured from the crash. For a latent injury or disease, time runs from discovery or when reasonable diligence should have revealed the injury; the Mississippi injury-deadline explanation gives the details.
For a passenger with soft tissue injuries and clear fault, settlement takes 4 to 9 months. A claim involving surgery takes 12 to 24 months. Additional disputes add the periods shown below.
| Claim circumstances | Settlement time |
|---|---|
| Soft tissue passenger injury, clear fault | 4 to 9 months |
| Surgical injury | 12 to 24 months |
| Disagreement over which insurance covered the crash | Add 3 to 8 months |
| Two drivers share fault | Add 4 to 10 months |
| An uninsured motorist claim is added | Add 3 to 9 months |
The timing figures are current as of September 15, 2026. Reporting to Lyft or keeping a claim open with an insurer does not change the filing deadline.

Mississippi Lyft accident questions
How much does Lyft pay for accidents in Mississippi?
For Mississippi passengers, soft tissue treatment over weeks pays $7,000 to $35,000, and months of therapy for a sprain or strain pays $15,000 to $60,000. A fracture healed without surgery pays $35,000 to $140,000; a herniated disc treated with injections and no surgery pays $45,000 to $185,000. Surgical claims pay $185,000 to $400,000 after a good recovery and $400,000 to $650,000 with permanent restrictions. Brain injury claims pay $200,000 to $1,000,000 or more, and wrongful death claims pay $350,000 to $1,000,000 or more.
Which insurance does Lyft use in Mississippi?
State Farm Fire and Casualty Company is the insurer listed on Lyft’s Mississippi certificate dated October 1, 2026. Lyft, Inc. is the insured, and the listed policies run from October 1, 2026 through October 1, 2027. The certificate identifies Mississippi and shows both a $1,000,000 liability limit per accident and the lower $50,000/$100,000/$25,000 limits.
What liability limits cover a Mississippi Lyft driver?
Mississippi law sets a minimum of $50,000 per person and $100,000 per incident for death or bodily injury, plus $25,000 for property damage, when a Lyft driver is logged on and waiting. After the driver accepts a ride, the law requires at least $1,000,000 for death, bodily injury and property damage. Lyft’s Mississippi certificate lists matching figures, although it does not assign the policies to driver activities.
Does the $1,000,000 requirement include the drive to pick me up?
The drive to pick you up is included in Mississippi’s $1,000,000 liability requirement because the driver has already accepted a ride. The requirement continues until the last requesting rider leaves the vehicle. If you were hurt during drop-off, record whether that rider had left the car at the time.
Does Lyft have uninsured motorist coverage in Mississippi?
Lyft’s public insurance pages and Mississippi certificate do not state a Mississippi uninsured motorist limit. The certificate neither lists nor excludes that coverage. State law requires the $25,000 per-person and $50,000 per-accident injury minimum, plus $25,000 for property, unless the named insured rejects it in writing; it does not require $1,000,000. Ask State Farm for the limit covering your crash date or the written rejection.
Must the driver’s personal insurer deny the claim before Lyft pays?
Mississippi does not let Lyft’s insurer make a denial from the personal insurer a condition of coverage. Lyft’s national wording describes coverage when personal insurance does not apply, but the state law removes a prior denial as a requirement. If the driver’s own coverage has lapsed or is insufficient, the company’s insurer must provide the required insurance from the first dollar and defend the claim.
What records should a passenger save after a Lyft collision?
Your trip receipt, trip-history screenshots and the driver’s insurance information are the records to save. You can open the Mississippi certificate publicly and request the log-on and log-off times for the 12 hours before and after the crash. The written insurance disclosure Lyft must give its drivers is a separate document; the disclosure law does not give passengers a right to receive it.
What happens if my Lyft driver gets in an accident?
You can report the collision to Lyft through its accident-report page to begin a claim for injuries or damage. Lyft says the form takes 10 to 15 minutes, and its Claims Customer Care team is available 24/7. Save the receipt and ask for the driver’s insurance information and whether a ride had been accepted. The report does not extend the time to sue.
Can a small claim against Lyft go to Mississippi Justice Court?
An individual claim against Lyft for no more than $3,500 fits Mississippi Justice Court’s damages limit and Lyft’s small-claims exception, provided it stays within that court’s jurisdiction and is not removed or appealed to a court of general jurisdiction. A claim against the company still needs a legal basis for holding Lyft responsible. Other covered disputes with Lyft go to individual arbitration under its February 9, 2026 terms.
Is a Lyft claim different from an Uber claim in Mississippi?
The Mississippi rules are the same for the two services, but their insurer documents, reporting processes and contract terms differ. Lyft’s Mississippi certificate identifies State Farm Fire and Casualty Company. Use the company’s own documents for insurance questions and the shared Mississippi rules for fault and filing deadlines.
How much is the Lyft settlement announced with Uber?
The New York Attorney General announced $38 million from Lyft and $290 million from Uber, totaling $328 million, on November 2, 2023. Those settlements created back-pay funds for current and former drivers in New York. They do not pay Mississippi passengers for crash injuries.
Who pays the $2,500 deductible on a Lyft driver’s car?
The Lyft driver bears the $2,500 deductible for a covered comprehensive or collision loss to the driver’s vehicle. The driver must already carry comprehensive and collision on the personal policy to receive Lyft’s contingent coverage. The Mississippi certificate limits payment to the lower of actual cash value or repair cost, less $2,500. A liability-only personal policy does not meet that condition.
What is the filing deadline for a Mississippi Lyft injury lawsuit?
The filing deadline for an ordinary Mississippi Lyft injury lawsuit is 3 years after the crash. A latent injury or disease follows the discovery rule: time starts when the injury is discovered or should be discovered with reasonable diligence. Neither an app report nor continuing insurance discussions extends the deadline.
How many months does a Mississippi Lyft claim take to settle?
A clear-fault passenger claim with soft tissue injuries takes 4 to 9 months, while a surgical claim takes 12 to 24 months. Add 3 to 8 months for a dispute over which insurance covered the crash, 4 to 10 months for fault divided between drivers, and 3 to 9 months when an uninsured motorist claim is added. Those times do not extend the filing deadline.
